Signature ceremony of the GEF-UNEP Tannourine Proj

The Ministry of Environment cordially signed the GEF-UNEP funded project entitled: “Integrated Management of Cedar Forest in Lebanon in Cooperation with other Mediterranean Countries.”
The Ministry of Environment cordially signed the GEF-UNEP funded project entitled: “Integrated Management of Cedar Forest in Lebanon in Cooperation with other Mediterranean Countries.”The project is executed by the Ministry of Environment and managed in partnership with the American University of Beirut. It tackles the Cephalcia infestation of the Tannourine Cedar Forest Nature Reserve. The three years project aims at addressing the serious stress arising in Tannourine- haddath El Jebbeh forest which is affecting 70% of one of the 12 surviving stands of Cedar forests in Lebanon. The signing ceremony was held at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Environment on Monday the 5th of July 2004 at 11:00 AM..The cermony started with an introduction about the project and speeches by his Excellency Yves De San (representing UNEP and GEF), Dr. Peter Heath( representing Dr. John Waterbury, President of the American University of Beirut), and his Excellency Mr. Fares Bouez( Minister of Environment). After which, the partners signed the memorundum of understanding between Ministry Of Environment and the American University Of Beirut. At the end of the ceremony, the attendants visited the exhibition about Tannourine and other Nature Reserves in Lebanon.
