Our Mission     Top

To integrate environmental considerations into public sectoral plans & programmes, through the application of Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), to alleviate major problems facing national sustainable development.

Expected Results       Top

There are five main areas of intervention:

  1. Policy and regulatory aspects
    • Develop a framework for SEA.
    • Develop environmental guidelines for land use planning.

  2. Capacity building

    • Train concerned public institutions regarding:
      • SEA application, monitoring and evaluation
      • Environmental guidelines

    • Train private sector consultants with respect to:
      • Scope & significance of SEA process.
      • Mainstreaming proposed environmental guidelines.


  3. Institutional strengthening

    • Develop national strategies for:
      • The application and monitoring of the SEA process in priority sectors.
      • Incorporating and monitoring the application of environmental guidelines.

  4. Dissemination and general awareness

    • Guiding manual on SEA process and application procedures.
    • Draft guidebook on the application of environmental guidelines.
    • General advocacy brochure for strategic decision-makers.
    • Regional meetings to disseminate SEA to NGOs and local authorities.

  5. Demonstration activity

    • Apply SEA procedures & environmental guidelines for land use planning in a pilot project and publish a good practice case study for future reference.
