I'm studying by taking part in the city's eco-activities and Noguchi Ken Environmental School. For four year, I've been picking up trash voluntarily on the street on my way to school, and making a scrap book with newspaper articles on the environment. I try to keep the environment on my mind all the time.
*Nature Conservation
I always try to be an "environmental messenger" and convey what I felt through my involvement in various eco-activities; the issue of littering on Mt. Fuji, preserving the environment of Ogasawara and Shirakawago, and reproduction of hometown mountains.
I not only enjoy the beauty of nature but also listen to the voices of the local people, how they view the environment and what activities are done. By getting involved myself in these activities, I learn many things which could be utilized in further studies and projects.
Our main goal is to get more involved in activities and further studies, acquire accurate knowledge, convey to many what I've felt, and to tie that into environmental activities in my hometown.
Mottainai-school 2005 (Kitakyushu Prosperity Enrichment Council) As a environmental correspondent, I observed Shirakawago and gave a presentation at the Children's Environmental Capital Forum.
- Children's World Conference for the Environment, Eco Nico Workshop 2005 (Green Cross Japan) As a panelist, I exchanged ideas with many participants.
- Noguchi Ken Environmental School, Tokyo Eco-Products 2005 I gave a presentation on the activities I had been involved in, and I also experienced the reproduction of hometown mountains.
"Nature and Reproduction" and "Reality of Adventives"
Through the process of mowing and logging in reproducing hometown mountains, I felt the weight of not being able to restore what's once lost. I also saw the damage adventives had done to the ecology. Don't these problems exist around you as well?
Every day I spent at this summit was full of moving moments. I realized there are many environmental problems in the world, some that are very serious. Through presentations on protecting the environment, I was surprised to learn the high awareness towards the environment. The presenters all seemed to take action themselves, carry through with it, and get adults involved in the movement as well. I would like to get involved in local and school activities in order to improve the environment. I would also like to study more English so I could exchange many thoughts with friends from all over the world. I appreciate that I was given the chance to look outside of Japan and to the world.
I first became interested in the environment four years ago, when I participated in a five-day camp in which we rode a boat from the upstream to the lower course of the river in my town. Compared to the upstream where there was still some nature left, the downstream water was polluted with factory and household effluents. I felt the importance of environment when I experienced this for the first time. At Noguchi Ken Environmental School, I recognized anew the splendid nature of Japan, and I studied about environment and took part in activities. Although I'm not very good at talking in front of others, I spoke of my experience and opinion at the conference. I would like to emphasize the importance of environment and continue to be involved in activities.
