Meeting of the Water and Environment Support (WES)

The Ministry of Environment took part in a meeting of the Water and Environment Support (WES) – Biodiversity and Climate Action (BCA) project for the Southern Neighbourhood, held in Beirut and funded by the European Union. The initiative supports Lebanon in the development of a legal framework for an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system, as well as measures to reduce single-use plastics, contributing to the transition towards a cleaner, more resource-efficient circular economy.

The Ministry reaffirmed that the establishment of an Extended Producer Responsibility system constitutes a key priority within Lebanon’s environmental reform agenda. It emphasized the need to strengthen the national legal framework, enhance institutional capacities, and ensure effective implementation, noting that the reduction of plastic waste has become an urgent environmental and economic imperative.
