We are either 5 graders or 6 graders, living in a suburb of Esteli City. We enjoy planting small trees in our school yard and in the community.
*Forests/Tree Planting, *Wastes and Recycling
The overall objective of this program allows students to become ecologically aware and responsible citizens of their community. This project will achieve its purposes by:
1. Setting up environmental commission of 5th and 6th graders.
2. Conducting investigation and field activities during class.
3. Maintaining public relations via radio and computers.
Our activities are mainly on waste management and organic soil with worms. As we all promised in the Summit, we started planting trees. We have planted 30 small trees by November 2005. When the new school term started in February, we set up cleaning program at school and in our community.
We think that we can promote change in students' behavior with respect to the environment while also having fun. So, for example, we sing a song to the community people to tell that it is important to throw away rubbish into rubbish bin. This is much more fun than just explaining how bad it is to throw away rubbish on the streets. Also, especially after participating in the Summit, I think it is the important to work together internationally for a better future of the earth.
The children's groups who are working with people in the community like Environmental NGO or companies in order to learn how to make the activity effective for the environment in our local community.
We try to change our bad conduct which is to throw away trash on the streets. So we would like to have some practical ways how to convince local people in keeping their rubbish until they find a trash box.
I really liked it because I knew children from other countries. Now I know a little about Bangladesh, Australia, Equador as well as Japan. I learned the importance of recycling. Since there is no recycle system in my city, we have to think how to use our trash in another way.I also liked putting on Kimono and yukata on the farewell party.
