Tasks of the Environmental Specialist Attached to the Regional Department in the Directorate of Regional Departments and the Intersectoral Inspectorate:

1. Support in providing opinions on the preparation of draft strategies, plans, executive programs, projects, activities, and studies aimed at enhancing local environmental governance, and follow up on their proper implementation.
2. Assist the General Directorate of Environment in implementing the Ministry of Environment’s policy, strategies, plans, programs, projects, activities, and studies, particularly regarding the application of environmental laws and regulations and sustainable development at the local level, based on the directives and recommendations of the General Directorate of Environment.
3. Follow up on proposals, inquiries, and complaints submitted to the Ministry via regional departments, and coordinate with the central administration when necessary through field inspections, investigations, providing opinions, proposing appropriate actions, and updating related information.
4. Assist in ensuring coordination between the General Directorate of Environment and local administrations, municipal councils, and regional offices of other public administrations in governorates and districts.
5. Assist in following up on the work of protected areas committees formed under ministerial decisions.
6. Support the representation of the Ministry in industrial licensing committees and health councils, based on the directives of the General Directorate of Environment in the governorates.
7. Support efforts to update data issued by environmental and development observatories in the governorates, based on the directives of the General Directorate of Environment.
8. Support in providing opinions on environmental impact assessments of strategies/plans/projects/studies in the governorates.
9. Participate in monitoring the compliance of development, industrial, and construction project owners with integrated environmental management plans or compliance frameworks.
10. Assist in following up on all treaties, agreements, protocols, and international, regional, and local meetings related to environmental topics.
11. Assist in collecting local information — within governorate boundaries — related to the environment sector and in updating geographic environmental and developmental indicators.
12. Support efforts to encourage the work of environmental and development committees in municipalities, in accordance with the directives of the General Directorate of Environment.
13. Assist in coordinating contributions within the public sector to implement environmental programs, projects, and activities in governorates, whether independently or in partnership with municipalities or municipal unions.
